Polo Sport
Created in Milan in 1936 by the genius idea of a technician who invented the scabbard in command panels of aircrafts. In these times the command panels of airplanes, as in other machines, were constructed from leversand sticks as we can see on the bicycles of those days.

The invention by the Milanese technician consisted of iron pipingrunning through spiral-flexibl scabbards. This invention revolutionized the technology of airplanes in those days, and of these mechanics in general.

This method remained in use for a long time until electronic commands and electronics replaced it.
However, even today, we can see them in use on the most modern bicycles.

The technician’s name is Luigi Polenghi.
Following his discovery of scabbards, He invented the famous camping spring beds and saw to their commercialisation.

So was started the shop Polenghi Sport in Corso Vercelli, just a few blocks away from where we are now situated.

This was in 1936. Together with camping beds and other products
of his own invention,
Polenghi added sports products characterized in their functional forms, by the same spirit
of his inventions.

Some years later the name Polenghi Sport was changed to Polo Sport. Little by little the sports products increased in Number and Polenghi gradually moved on from Production to sales.

Luigi Polenghi’s work was continued and carried on by his son Giancarlo.

As an athlete Giancarlo competed in Bob Sledding Winning the silver medal in the Italian championships
of the Bob for 4 persons in 1967,
and the bronze in Bob for 2 persons
in 1968.

Giancarlo brought his experience
as an athlete into his store, becoming the supplier for the Italian team
at the World Championships of skiing in 1967, for the summer Olimpics in 1968 in Mexico City, and further
on at the Munich Olimpics in 1972.

Giancarlo Polenghi managed his store, Polo Sport, until 1989 and then turned it over into the hands of Michele De Masis, its actual owner.

Michele enetered the sports world in the category of Race Walker.
In the Juniors category
he won the Italian Championship of Race Walker
beating out the then famous
Maurizio Damilano,
something that very few other
athletes could have accomplished.

He competed in the Italian Nationals and became part of the Italian ‘Guardia Di Finanza’
where he remained for only afew yars, moving on then to
his great passion,
transmitted to him by his coach Valdemare Meneguzzo,
who was already the owner of a wonderful Sports store in Milan.

In 1989 Michele ‘regenerated’
Polo Sport, creating a new way
of researching tied in with modern sports, the secret of the success
of his store.

“I personally reaserach sports
articles all over the world,
the I experiment with them
together with a team of
qualified sportsmen,
and only after all this do
I propose these articles to
my customers, honestly being
able to say, it’s fantastic….and
I will dedicate myself to continue this approach of never being satisfied…”

After more than 40 years spent
among sports articles, first as an athlete, then as a store owner and salesman,
Michele also is preparing his son Andrea to carry on the business.

Polo Sport bases its roots in the genius and inventive character of Luigi Polenghi. Having grown up with the examples of Giancarlo Polenghi
and Michele De Masis’,
today Andrea de Masis
represents the future,
new seeds,
new fruits, and new ideas.
